Who was the Melchizedek that Abraham met? The king of Salem and high priest of The Most High. We have very little about him and have a lot of presuppositions about him. None of them seem sufficient, in my opinion. He was a real man and Salem was a real city, apparently a city where the inhabitants already worshipped The Most High. Where is Salem? What happened to Salem and its inhabitants? Why don't we know anything about it? Why don't we know anything about Melchizedek? Why does he only appear once? Is it a conspiracy to cover it up by "the people in charge"? Are there any hints or clues about it in the scripture that we missed? Or any hints or clues in other ancient writings? It might be good rabbit hole to jump down.

It might be good rabbit hole to jump down. Melchizedek is a prophetic placeholder for a new order of priesthood. Jesus is described at the Centerpiece of that new order in Hebrews 7. (Note it is an order of Melchizedek-meaning there has to be more than one priest to be an order.) Jesus is both king and priest. Ezekiel 9 gives more information about this prophetic order of both king (or prince) and priest. You have to dig beneath the surface and examine each word (even if you just focus on vs 1-2 it will get you there), examine each verse of the Bible that each word (and also all their roots) occur in as well as the definition of each root. Exodus 19:6 and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. 1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.Rev 1:6 And made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.Rev 5:10 And you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.Ezekiel 9 describes a loud voice calling the overseers, those that have charge of the city, to draw near, each with their destroying article. Destroying is used only one time in the entire Bible and it is here. It is worth looking at each verse any root or root of root of this word occurs in the Bible. You will find the root occurs in Ex 12:13 marking both Passover as the timing of the call of the loud voice and the purpose-judgment. Judgment is also the focus of the context of the root of the root word in Gen 6:11-13 when the earth was corrupt and judgment is coming. The article is held in the overseers hands. We find out what that article is in verse 2. It is an article for shattering, like a rod of iron held in the hand for shattering earthenware in Ps 2:9 and Rev 2:27 and Rev 12:5. The six men are with the man clothed in linen with a writing case at his waist. This is the 6 branches of the menorah with Jesus as the center Servant Branch, the root of Jesse, the tree of Life. Seven is the number of completion. The seven branches are the seven assemblies in Rev 1-3 with Jesus in the midst (Rev 1:13). However, those who did not have ears to hear what the Spirit said to the assemblies have been broken off (Rev 2:5, Rom 11:17-21; John 15:6). What remains is the perfectly completed Menorah of the faithful, uncompromised, abiding, loving, obedient and now glorified believers who become princes and priests in service to the King of Kings. Jesus and his elders are one (Jn 17:21) like how the menorah was formed with the branches beaten out from the center branch from one solid piece of gold. (Ex 25:31) They were made in the likeness and image of Christ in their earthly lives (2 Cor 3:18; Rom 8:29). These are the firstborns of the Woman (Rev 12:5; Is 66:7) with the double portion inheritance. The other believers who didn't have ears to hear what the Spirit said to the assemblies (Rev 2-3) are the other sons (Rev 12:17; Is 66:8). They will finish being conformed into His likeness during the Great tribulation and/or millennial kingdom. Ez 9:2 is oddly specific about details re directions which is typically a "heads up" for something meaningful. These overseers/overcomers came from the direction (Gen 3:24 first mention is about the way to the tree of life) of the upper (def: rulers, of God; 1st mention Gen 14:18 Melchizedek; Root: ʿālâ def: to ascend, to be taken up (like the man child); 1st mention Gen 2:6 which would take too long to explain the relevance. ʿIn addition ālâ is often associated with the concept of resurrection. Gate is associated with leadership. gate faces north-The overcomers approach from the north. Ex 26:35 describes the position of the menorah. it is on the north side facing the table of the showbread which will have 12 fresh new loaves (the other sons of Israel) brought into the Holy Place on the seventh, millennial, day. There are many more things to dig into in these verses (like the writing case!), but I'm out of time for today. I hold a different view of the harvesting of believers into the presence of God (the pilgrimage festivals) than Messiah 2030 and everyone else that I have read on this forum. Check out my other posts if you are interested. Test all things, hold to what is good. Shalom.

It's chronologically possible for Melchizedek = SHEM, though it's not backed up by anything directly. I've heard this and found it interesting. With Melchizedek being the new name of SHEM after the languages were changed perhaps.
